The 1913 Washington Senators finished second in the American League with a 90-64 record. Managed by Clark Griffith and led by Hall of Fame pitcher Walter Johnson"s astounding 36-7 record and 1.14 earned run average the team was one of the strongest in the league.Presented is an advertising premium or periodical centerfold of unknown origin featuring the members of the 1913 Senators. Highlighted by Walter Johnson at the front and center of the piece the other team member images include stars of the day like Chic Gandil Nick Altrock and Bob Groom their inset pictures all forming the letter "W " which is flanked by images of Hall of Fame manager Clark Griffith along with the US Capitol building and The White House. Our research has been unable to determine the specific origin of the piece however it is surely interesting and makes for an outstanding display. The piece is folded in the middle (right down the center of Johnson"s face unfortunately) and has a considerable amount of wear at that point even having causing some separation between the two halves at the very top two inches or so of the piece and producing a few small holes at the fold almost consistent with having been saddle-stitched into a magazine or program of some sort.Aside from the wear at the fold the piece exhibits some age-related yellowing (don"t we all?) and some edge and corner wear along with a tiny bit of paper loss at the top of the fold. An excellent piece with tremendous display value featuring one of the game"s greatest-ever pitchers at the pinnacle of his career.
