A stalwart piece of the Ruthian New York Yankees era, Tony Lazzeri also found Hall of Fame enshrinement and appears as one of many baseball players in this U.S. Caramel multi-sport "Famous Athletes" set. The PSA EX 5 grade reflect solid centering, touched corners, and slight toning that does not detract from its strong central image. (Note its placement in the holder implies a tilt that does not exist on the card itself.)

This U.S. Caramel set proves a good deal harder to find than contemporaries like Goudey or National Chicle, perhaps because bubblegum cards sold in much greater numbers than caramel. The population report shows just 68 graded, with this one sitting it its upper half.

PSA grading labels use "1932" for U.S. Caramel and opinions vary on the precise date for this set. While likely designed in 1932, recent research points to distribution starting in early 1933, as regulations for gum and candy companies loosened that January and led to an explosion of new sports and non-sport sets throughout the year.
