Known to be an avid golfer, Ty Cobb retired for good following his final season with the Philadelphia Athletics in 1928. Nearly two years removed from his final major league performance, Cobb posed for this photo with a baseball bat cleverly fashioned into a golf club. Bright and crystal clear 6.5" x 8.5" original news service photograph remains in beautiful overall condition, free from significant blemishes worthy of note. Large credit stamping from Underwood has been applied to verso, and a Sept. 2, 1930 paper caption remains affixed at the top edge, stating: "TY COBB, ONCE GREAT DIAMOND STAR, INTRODUCES ODD GOLF CLUB AT ASHVILLE - 'Ty' Cobb, well known heavy hitter of the Detroit Tigers a few years ago, introduces a new and novel midiron, made from one of his old sluggers, on the links at Ashville." Fresh to the hobby photo has been authenticated as a Type I example by PSA/DNA and their full LOA is provided.
