One of 17 different poses of Mike Morgan featured in the N172 issue, this 1888 example pictures the outfielder gripping a baseball, the outstanding detail of the image clearly illuminating the folds of his rolled-up sleeve, the buttons on his shirt, the folds in his belt. Morgan pitched for the Giants for five seasons, but age, injuries, and alcoholism wound down his career. He died of blood poisoning in 1909, after electing to have knee surgery to repair an injury he suffered in 1887.
