Second baseman Rogers Hornsby poses for photographers on Opening Day at the Polo Grounds in this 1928 Type I photo from Wide World. The seven-time National League batting champion stands at the top step of his dugout in a rare shot taken during Hornsby's lone season with the Boston Braves. Large format 8" x 10" photo is fresh to hobby, having been safely stored with remnants of a newspaper archive for many decades until the time of this sale. A fabulous depiction of the future Hall of Famer at 32 years old with near-perfect focus and tonal contrast. Some typical handling wear is present, including chipping and creasing mostly relegated to the upper corners, with obvious toning present along edges of verso. Verso displays credit stamping from Wide World with a dated paper caption still affixed along the bottom edge. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type I photo by PSA/DNA.
