Paul Giel is often collected for his football achievements first, as a two-time All-American and member of the College Football Hall of Fame. He struggled to find a similar level of success in the majors, and even his time for the 1960 World Series champion Pirates was foreshortened by a midseason return to AAA. He later became a man traded for himself, as the "player to be named" on each side of a delayed swap between Minnesota and Kansas City.
