Hage's Dairy of Southern California issued three card sets in three
years starting in 1949. According to researcher David Levin, the cards were not included in any of their products, however. Instead, they were issued in boxes of popcorn sold at the concessions stands at
Lane Field Park, home of the San Diego Padres of the Pacific Coast
League. The cards from 1950's 128-card set are black-and-white, with most card
backs containing an advertisement for Hage's milk, ice cream or ice
cream bars. The backs contain the player's name and 1949 statistics or
career highlights. Unlike the 1949 and 1951 Hage's Dairy cards, the 1950
cards are not found in any other tint than black-and-white.
San Francisco's Jim Moran
is the subject
of this example, graded EX-NM 6
by PSA. Centering just just west and south on the canvas, keeping this card from grading even higher than it already has. Great, sharp corners and crisp edges, along with a clean and bright image. The printing on the back remains dark and bold, as well. This is an extraordinary example seldom seen with this sort of visual appeal.
PSA has only ever graded 12 total
examples of this 1949 Hage's Dairy card,
with NONE receiving a higher grade than the EX-NM 6 offered here
of San Francisco's Jim Moran.
