Winter league card of Negro League legend and future Hall of Famer Leon Day, shown in his Santurce (Puerto Rico) uniform during its 1951-52 season. Denia produced these blank-backed, paper-thin "cards" to promote their dairy products and printed a collectors album for its sprawling set of almost 400 baseball, basketball, and boxing stars. Day was a standout pitcher whose prime years narrowly missed MLB integration in 1947. He continued to play into the 1950s and helped integrate several American and Canadian minor leagues. Note the set itself lacks clear info about its issue and manufacturer. While a previous owner submitted this card as "1950-51," recent research dates Denia cards to the 1951-52 Puerto Rican season. SGC graded this 1 (poor) due to rounded corners and moderate staining.
