1930 Type I photo of legendary hurler, Charles Albert Bender. "Chief" Bender, the ace of Connie Mack's championship team's of the Deadball Era, helped the A's capture five American League pennants and three World Series titles from 1910-13. On the day this image was captured, the man his former manager called "...the greatest money pitcher of all time" was 46 years old but still in the game, appearing for a Philadelphia-area semi-pro team on this occasion. Fresh to the hobby 8" x 10" photo exhibits typical handling wear associated with news service photos, including a small chip to the extreme lower-right corner. Credit stamping from Wide World has been applied to center of verso with a handwritten identifier of Bender at the top. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type I photo by PSA/DNA.
