8" x 10" Type I photo depicting Hall of Famers Max Carey and Honus Wagner with their old friend, George Gibson. Teammates from 1910-17 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, both Carey and Gibson were managers of their respective clubs and Wagner served in a coaching role at the time the image was captured. Image quality of this sepia-toned photo is impressively crisp, the players surrounded by a pleasingly white border with a small crease to the upper-right corner. "X" marks appear over both Wagner and Gibson and remain embedded in the image itself, not sitting on top of the emulsion layer. These would have been applied to the original negative in black, then appear as white once the image was developed. Generally this was done to indicate areas to be cropped from a final print, though that didn't occur in the case of this example. Verso displays large credit stamping from Wide World with an affixed paper caption describing the scene from Ebbets Field on 5/4/1933. Authenticated by PSA/DNA as a Type I photo and includes their full LOA.
