The earliest known collectible of Christy Mathewson is his 1901 Police Gazette supplement. Published by National Police Gazette each supplement was numbered based on the issue number in which it was included which enables the individual 12" x 17" supplements to be dated despite the issue being produced over a sixteen-year period. This example is a variation that does not include the tag line underneath Matty's name. While the piece does exhibit some wear including wrinkles and stains (most predominantly on the right edge) along with water staining at the top edge the display characteristics are extremely strong. The piece has been matted but is easily removed (two pieces of tape secure the piece delicately at the top) but due to the fragile nature of the piece we have elected to leave it in the matte for protection. A very scarce piece in high demand the earliest known collectible of one of the hobby's greats.
