One of two Type I photos in this auction captured during festivities surrounding the old-timers game hosted at Braves Field on September 8, 1930. In an event that featured over 50 veterans from the 1880's-1920's, a team of Boston old-timers competed against a team of old-timer "All-Stars" to help raise charity funds for both the Children's Hospital of Boston and the Professional Baseball Player's of America Charity Fund. Large format, fresh to the hobby example depicts the "The Flying Dutchman," Honus Wagner, taking a hack as baseball clown, Nick Altrock humorously pantomimes catching duties as a reported 22,000 fans look on. Photo surface remains clean and bright with equally unblemished verso. A panoramic photo from Lou Criger's estate, captured that very day, sold in our Winter 2016 Premier Auction and pictures nearly all old-timers in attendance. Interestingly, only four former players known to have been in present do not appear in that photo, with Honus Wagner being one of the four (Hugh Bedient, Ralph Glaze, and Larry Doyle are also not represented). The offered photo has been authenticated and encapsulated as a Type I photo by PSA/DNA.
