Incredibly, Hall of Fame pitcher Charles Arthur "Dazzy" Vance didn't experience his first full season in the major leagues until he turned 31 in 1922. Despite his advanced age, Vance's achievements are the stuff of legend: National League strikeout leader for seven consecutive seasons (1922-28), winner of pitching's triple crown in 1924 – leading the league in wins (28), strikeouts (262), and ERA (2.16) on his way to becoming the first pitcher to be named National League MVP. On September 13, 1925 Vance tossed a no-hitter against the Philadelphia Phillies in a 10-1 victory, and later helped his "Gashouse Gang" Cardinals capture a World Series title in 1934. A fabulous portrait of the Hall of Fame right-hander, the presented Type I photograph depicts Vance in what appears to be his 1931 Brooklyn Robins uniform. This fresh to the hobby example remains free of obtrusive flaws, measures a full 7" x 9", and boasts impeccable clarity and contrast with bright white borders. Verso remains clean with Wide World credit stamping applied. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type I photo by PSA/DNA.
