Early this year, we were paid a visit by an occasional consignor and antique hunter based in Pennsylvania. He brought with him two cardboard matte backer boards - the kind one would find in a picture frame - and onto each was affixed rows and rows of T206 cards. A first glance revealed several Hall of Famers, including a red background Cobb.  A closer examination, however, revealed a treasure trove - mixed in with the commons were a number of printers scraps and print anomalies.  Cards with missing colors, yellow print scraps, overprints, multi-strikes, dual names.  We were fascinated, and along with the consignor, made the determination that the cards needed to be removed from the backing.

We sent the boards to a professional conservator who determined that the cards were affixed to modern boards with what appeared to be heavy duty, double-sided tape.  We instructed the conservator to remove the cards, and when complete, we discovered many multi-strike Piedmont backs mixed in as well.  Ultimately amidst the group we found 20 cards that we consider scraps or print anomalies - never before have we found so many in one place!

Of course not all of the cards were scraps - there were many more that were just T206s, without any kind of print defect at all.  The overwhelming majority of those cards are presented here, the overwhelming majority with Sweet Caporal backs (the remainder are Piedmont). The cards are largely F-P condition, all with the telltale markings of the adhesive tape on the reverse.  Creases and surface abrasions abound, and many have paper loss on the reverse where the tape was removed.  Collection includes the following: Anderson, Arellanes, Atz, Beck, Brashear, Bridwell (portrait, no cap), Burke, Burns (2), Butler, Chase (dark cap), Chase (white cap), Cravath, Criger, Criss, Delehanty, Devlin, Dineen, Donovan (throwing), Dougherty (portrait), Egan, Evans, Ferguson, Ferris, Fiene (throwing), Fiene (portrait), Gilbert, Graham (St. Louis), Hayden, Herzog (NY), Hoblitzell, Hoffman (St. Louis), Hoffman (Providence), Huggins (HOF - hands at mouth), Huggins (HOF - portrait), Isbell, Jones (St. Louis), Joss (HOF - portrait), Keeler (HOF - batting), Kelley (HOF), Killian (pitching), Kruger, Lavender, Leifield (pitching), Livingstone, Lobert, Lord (2), Lundgren (Kansas City), Maddox, Maloney, Mathewson (HOF - dark cap), Miller (Pittsburgh), Nattress, O'Hara, Oldring (fielding), Owen, Paskert, Phelan, Phelps, Quillen, Raymond, Ritter, Rucker (portrait - heavily trimmed), Schlei (catching), Schmidt (throwing), Schulte (front view), Scott, Seymour (batting), Stone, Sullivan, Sweeney (Boston), Tenney (top of card trimmed off), Waddell (HOF - portrait), Wagner (bat on right shoulder), Walsh (HOF), Weimer, White (Buffalo), Williams, Wiltse (portrait, no cap, seriously poor condition), Wright. 80 cards total.
