Ernie Burch played eight seasons of professional baseball, but only one in St. Louis. He stole 14 bases in 39 games for the St. Louis Whites of the Western Association in 1888, for whom he is depicted playing on this card. Somehow, Burch is featured with eight different poses in
the N172 set, but isn't that what makes this set great? This example features Burch in a dark uniform, with his bat by his left shoulder.
The image on the front is in great condition, still showing wonderful contrast and bold, dark printing. The fake grass in the photo studio is easily spotted, and the text at the bottom of the card is clearly legible. There appears to be evidence of a light trim, most visible with a wavy cut along the left edge, which would explain the card's Authentic grade.
Including this card, there have only ever been two examples of this 1887 N172 Old Judge graded by PSA. They each received an Authentic grade.
