Young right-hander Lon Warneke recorded a league-best 22 victories in 1932 while guiding his Chicago Cubs to a National League pennant. Known for his overhand curveball, the 24-year-old Warneke was an 18-game winner the following season and was named to the National League squad for the first Major League Baseball All-Star Game, hosted at Comiskey Park on July 6, 1933. The presented large format original photograph of Warneke, in his specially issued 1933 All-Star Game uniform, measures 11" x 14" and has been signed and inscribed by Warneke to a fan or acquaintance. Corners of photo show just a touch of typical wear with no obtrusive blemishes worthy of mention otherwise. Chicago-based photographer George Burke has captured Warneke's likeness and the photo includes Burke's personal credit stamping on verso. These special large format photographs, developed on high quality double weight photo paper, are known to have been issued directly to the players by Burke and are among the most desired George Burke photos in the hobby. Incredibly, we are offering a total of five such photos in this auction, all of which Warneke has signed and/or inscribed. Includes full LOA from PSA/DNA authenticating the signature.
