Historic large format original photograph from Chicago-based photographer George Burke, taken on July 6, 1933 just prior to the first Major League Baseball All-Star Game. Each player is proudly sporting special grey flannel uniform tops emblazoned with "National League" across the chest in navy and "NL" in white against their dark caps (an alternate pose in this auction shows the team with caps removed). By comparison, the American League squad would wear their standard home whites for the contest, won by the AL 4-2. Fabulous image from Comiskey Park includes eight future Hall of Famers in Max Carey, Frankie Frisch, Gabby Hartnett, Carl Hubbell, John McGraw, Bill Terry, Pie Traynor, and Paul Waner. Measures 10" x 14" and each player's name has been inscribed at the bottom, with a corresponding number, by pitcher Lon Warneke (second from the right, bottom row). Corners of photo show just a touch of typical wear with no obtrusive blemishes worthy of mention otherwise. George Burke's personal credit stamping has been applied to verso in the lower-right corner. These special large format photographs, developed on high quality double weight photo paper, are known to have been issued directly to the players by Burke and are among the most desired George Burke photos in the hobby. Incredibly, we are offering a total of five such photos in this auction, all of which Lo Warneke has either signed and/or inscribed.
