Anthony Joseph "Tony" Hellman played only one career game in the Major Leagues, for the 1886 Baltimore Orioles of the American Association. The final season of his career was 1889 with the Sioux City Corn Huskers of the Western Association, where he played 37 of his 198 career games as a professional. Despite such a short career, Hellman has five different poses in
the N172 set. This one depicts the Sioux City Catcher standing with his feet shoulder width apart, ready to receive a ball with both hands extended out in front of his body.
Some diamond cutting and rounded corners, paired with edge chipping and light paper loss along the bottom edge explain the card's technical grade. Minor creasing is visible, especially when looking at the back of the card. Yet Hellman's intensity and focus is on full display, giving this card tremendous eye appeal, helped by the wonderful printing and the great contrast of the light and dark shades.
