Mike Dorgan played 425 games for the New York Giants of the National League between 1883 and 1887, batting .281 with 470 hits over that span. Dorgan was a well-established player in New York at the time of the issuance of the Old Judges, and has a whopping 17 (!) different poses in
the N172 set because of it. This
issue depicts the Giants' right fielder ready to throw, with the ball in his right hand at cap height, while he looks off to the left into the distance.
The image on this card is gorgeous, with dark, bold printing and terrific contrast. Dorgan's uniform top is striped, with a solid light pant and dark socks, making for a vibrant look in front of a stylized studio backdrop. It appears as if the Authentic grade may be due to the evidence of trimming, possibly trying to over-correct some diamond cutting. However, despite the grade, this card has tremendous eye appeal with beautifully dark text perfectly legible from a distance. One of the finer images you will see on an N172 card.
