The 1934 Goudey "Big League Stars" issue was heavily promoted with endorsements by Lou Gehrig and Chuck Klein, and a number of different premiums. The marketing of the Goudey Gum company in the 1930s was quite innovative, and part of the marketing involved the distribution of two different albums (magenta for AL, blue for NL), given away to the person who purchased the last penny pack in each of the high-number box, or to any collector to mail 50 wrappers to Goudey. Presented here is the National League album, well-worn as it once housed all the cards. Each of the cards have been removed, leaving glue stains and in some cases paper loss or remnants in their wake. Heavy discoloration is notable on the cover, which has darkened to a sort of midnight blue, with edge discoloration likely the result of being stored against acidic paper for some time. Still, albums from the set are infrequently found, and highly coveted among collectors of Goudey premiums and ephemera.
