Sadly we are unable to identify any Cuban Giants players with the exception of third baseman Frank Grant on this Cuban Giants/Dartmouth scorecard. Dating to April 30, 1897, the Wesleyan lineup is printed directly on the card but the Cuban Giants panel was blank, the player names handwritten in pencil with only three remotely legible, including the leadoff hitter Grant. Grant, of course, starred in the International League before Black players were removed from the game, and was a pioneer in the Negro Leagues, considered by many to be the greatest Black player of the 19th Century, and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2006. In this particular game, Grant appeared to go 1-for-4. The scorecard itself has been torn from top to bottom along one edge, repaired with clear tape. An interesting and historically important piece.
