Regarded as "the greatest 45min in sports history," the 21-year-old Owens tied
or broke six world records at the 1935 Big Ten Track and Field
Championships. One year later, Owens would famously win four gold medals at
the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin while competing in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, the long jump, and 4 x 100 meter relay.
This exceptional 1936 issue depicts the Olympian taking off in
full sprint. The intensity in his eyes and the fluidity of his muscles
are captured perfectly in this wonderful photo. Graded EX 5 by PSA, the only real flaw is some light toning around the perimeter.
PSA has only ever graded 185 total
examples of this 1936 Reemstma Cigarettes Band II, with only forty-eight
receiving a higher grade than the EX 5 offered here of Jesse Owens.
