Issued just a year after his iconic rookie card, a spectacular portrait
image of a smiling Gehrig graces this card, from the 1926-29 Exhibit
set. A favorite among collectors, the set is known for the wide variety
of different color tints used on the cards.
One of two poses of Gehrig
featured in the issue, this example is graded VG-EX 4 by PSA, displaying
only minor corner wear and some age-related discoloration at the edges.
There's some
edge and corner chipping while the central image of Gehrig remains
bright and appealing. The creamy reverse shows the typical wear pattern
associated with vintage Exhibits, with the well struck obverse's siren
song being irresistible. PC back Exhibits have always been popular with
collectors and very few Hall Of Famers are more popular than Gehrig. Overall, a very strong example for the grade, a very early card
featuring a classic image of the Yankee captain.
PSA has only ever graded 46 total examples of this 1926-29 Exhibit with a postcard back, with only thirteen receiving a higher grade than the VG-EX 4 offered here of Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig's portrait.
