George Bradley was one of the game's first star pitchers, leading the Major Leagues in ERA, ERA+, WHIP, and Shutouts in 1876. By 1889, he was 36 years old and playing his final full season in organized ball, spending all but one game manning third base for the Sioux City Corn Huskers of the Western Association. Bradley has five cards in
the N172 set, each of them exceedingly rare. This version shows the aging ballplayer holding his bat at the ready, looking at the camera.
This card has tremendous eye appeal, with dark, bold printing and easily legible text. There are some rounded corners and soft edges, but the front presents very nicely for the grade, which can largely be explained by cosmetic issues and light paper loss only affecting the back. However, the
scarcity of this
example far outweighs any technical issues the card may have.
This is the only example of this 1887 N172 Old Judge which PSA has ever graded.
