Bill Collins played one game for the 1887 New York Metropolitans of the American Association, going 1-for-4 in 4 plate appearances. Yet, somehow, Collins has eight different poses in the N172 set. This example depicts a full length view of the catcher with his hands above his head, waiting to catch a pop up. If you'll notice, he has small, fingerless gloves on each hand, as opposed to one large catcher's mitt, which was not yet the style.

This card's image is absolutely beautifully composed and framed. Some poses in this set are very unnatural and clearly staged. While this one is staged, as well, and taken in a photography studio like all of the others, Collins' pose looks like he is in actual game action, ready to catch an actual pop up. One of the photographic gems of the set. Centering is just slightly south on the canvas, but the bold, dark print has remained true, leaving the text especially legible toward the bottom of the card.

PSA has only ever graded 5 total examples of this 1887 N172 Old Judge, with NONE receiving a higher grade than the VG-EX 4 offered here.
