While most associate him with the New York Yankees of 1960-66, slugging outfielder Roger Eugene Maris began his career with the 1957-58 Cleveland Indians. Captured sometime during his rookie season, the future two-time American League MVP (1961, 1962) stands ready to strike in this early original Type 1 photo of the man who would surpass Babe Ruth for baseball's single-season home run record in 1961. 7" x 9" example has been trimmed to current dimensions and exhibits superb image clarity with sepia toning throughout. Stamping crediting the image to the Cleveland Indians and identifying Maris has been applied to the lower-right corner of verso, and a date stamp of June 27, 1967 appears at the center. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type 1 photo by PSA/DNA.
