One of the most important postwar Hall of Fame rookie cards is that
of Pirates outfielder Roberto Clemente. As the profile of key rookie
cards continues to elevate during the hobby boom, the Clemente has taken
its rightful place among the most desirable cards of the era. A
beautiful card featuring both portrait and full-body "action"
illustrations along with a facsimile autograph, the card superimposes
the image of Clemente over a rich, green background. Over the years,
the card has skyrocketed in price, particularly in higher grades,
becoming one of the most valuable of all postwar baseball cards.
Presented here is a collector-grade specimen which has retained its beautiful color palette. Centering is a
notorious problem with the 1955 Topps set, and it is on this example,
too, with the image residing south and west on the canvas. Corners are rounded with slight edge chipping and faint snow. Still plenty of eye appeal on one of the
hobby's marquee postwar vintage cards, one of the most important Hall
of Fame rookie cards of the era.
