There are three different Orval Overall poses in the T206 set. One is a portrait, one shows him in the middle of his windup with his hands at waist level, and this one, which depicts Overall at the end of a throw, with his hand at face level. There are plenty of condition issues consistent with the grade of the card, from rounded and missing corners, to creasing throughout the card, to some minor areas of paper loss. Despite its issues, the card somehow still presents nicely, with the gorgeous sunset in the background shifting from yellow to pink in a beautiful gradient. Of course the back is the selling point here, as the Drum back is extremely rare and desirable.
Orval Overall's career was short, but impactful, winning more than
100 games from 1905 to 1910. He led the Cubs to four World Series
appearances in a five year span, winning back-to-back titles in 1907 and
1908. PSA has only ever graded 3 total
examples of this Drum back version of the Overall, with only one receiving a
higher grade than the POOR 1 offered here.
