Original c.1960's Type 1 news service photo picturing Mickey Mantle posed as a first baseman at Yankee Stadium. As sore knees continued to plague Mantle late in his career the Yankees moved their superstar outfielder to first in an effort to keep his legendary bat in the lineup. Incredibly, the future Hall of Famer played the entirety of his 1967 and 1968 campaigns at the position while being voted to All-Star rosters both seasons. Large 8" x 10" photo presents a remarkable, intimate look at "The Mick" during the final stages of his storied Yankees tenure. Gentle toning to the white borders is apparent, with heavier toning on verso amidst large credit stamping from the Daily News. General handling wear from life in a newspaper archive can be found throughout this example but remains unobtrusive to the overall appeal. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type 1 photo by PSA/DNA.
