Collection of four 1914 glass magic lantern slides each depicting popular Cleveland shortstop, Ray Chapman. Each slide features Chapman in a variety situations while training with the Naps at spring camp in Athens, GA. Condition appears to be consistent across the group with black paper borders surrounding the 3.25" x 4" translucent slides remaining fully intact. Glass surfaces of all slides appear to be very clean for their age, allowing for beautiful presentation of the central images. Included: 1) Stunning, intimate portrait of Ray Chapman 2) Ray Chapman fielding, with "Chappie Takes a Grounder" inscription below. 3) Gene Paulette, Ray Chapman, Ray Wood, George Dunlop with Chapman demonstrating "Lesson in Sliding Wrong." 4) Gene Paulette, Ray Chapman, Ray Wood, George Dunlop with Chapman demonstrating "Lesson in Sliding Right." Slides originate from the estate of former Cleveland Plain Dealer staff photographer Frank W. Smith, who traveled with the Cleveland Naps to their spring facilities for many years during the 1910's.
