1926 rookie-era original photo depicting future New York Yankees Hall of Famer, Anthony Michael "Tony" Lazzeri. The twenty two year old Lazzeri would prove a valuable commodity in his rookie season, finishing third behind Babe Ruth in the AL home run race while helping his Yankees secure an American League pennant. By 1927 the feared Yankees lineup had been dubbed "Murderer's Row," and with Lazzeri as the starting shortstop they would capture five World Series titles across 1927, 1928, 1932, 1936, and 1937. While this photo was initially distributed by Underwood and bears all the hallmarks of an Underwood-issued photo on verso, the image is known to have been captured by photographer Charles Martin Conlon. Photo presents in excellent overall condition with bright white borders and varying degrees of gentle wear to the corners. Several paper labels remain affixed to verso indicating this example had once been housed within the Bettman Archive. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type 1 photo by PSA/DNA.
