Beautiful photograph of Chicago Cubs second baseman Johnny Evers, as distributed on January 6, 1910 by the Sporting News as
part of an issue that featured 100 different supplements distributed
between 1909 and 1913. This offering has been well-preserved and is now
protected in a PSA slab. Despite exhibiting
age-related wear - particularly some light surface abrasions and creasing at the edges - this offering has tremendous eye appeal.
The details on this photo are spectacular, with the Hall of Famer looking back directly at the camera after securing a ball with two hands while he covers the first base bag. Note the shiny, soft leather of his glove, and the clumps of dirt on the barely-manicured infield, only possible due to the large format
printing of this classic portrait.
While the piece has some light
staining on the
back, as well as some fingerprint smudges,
the image is still extremely presentable and would make for
an excellent display. An outstanding document, particularly
interesting to Cubs collectors.
