Toledo catcher "Doc" Sage had the second-lowest season average of any 19th Century position player with at least 250 at bats, hitting just .149 in 1890. This card, the plate specimen for the great Old Judge book The Photographic Baseball Cads of Goodwin & Company, has justifiably been graded FR 1.5 by PSA due to heavy adhesive and scrapbook staining on the reverse. The image front, however, is quite strong, Sage stooping low as if to be catching a low ball. Sage's Old Judge cards are extremely tough, landing him on the "Very Scarce Cards" list in the aforementioned Old Judge book.
