We have made the decision to break up an EXTRAORDINARY 1963 Topps set - the #4 Master Set on the PSA Set Registry. The 1963 set is a particularly difficult set to complete in high grade due to Topps' poor quality control in the era which resulted in considerable print defects. The large and colorful border at the bottom simultaneously lends a distinctive design element and a condition challenge, as they are extremely susceptible to chipping and wear.

The example offered here is card #247, New York Yankees, graded MINT 9. The 1963 Yankees finished the year 104-57, winning the American League pennant by 10.5 games. Mickey Mantle and Yogi Berra played 65 games or less each, but Elston Howard and Tom Tresh were there to fill in and carry the torch. Though they breezed through the regular season, Sandy Koufax, Don Drysdale, and the Los Angeles Dodgers were too much to overcome in the World Series.

This card is nearly perfect, from its sharp corners and crisp edges, to the bold colors and even the print registration, which was often an issue for this 1963 set. There is some light snow in the red background, and the centering on the back is south on the canvas, otherwise this card might have graded at a 10.

You won't find a nicer example of this card. And that isn't hyperbole. Not a single example ever seen by PSA has received a higher grade than the card offered here.
