We have made the decision to break up an EXTRAORDINARY 1963 Topps set
- the #4 Master Set on the PSA Set Registry. The 1963 set is a
particularly difficult set to complete in high grade due to Topps' poor
quality control in the era which resulted in
considerable print defects. The large and colorful border at the bottom
simultaneously lends a distinctive design element and a condition
challenge, as they are extremely susceptible to
chipping and wear.
The example offered here is card #3, 1962 NL
Home Run Leaders, graded NM-MT 8. The card features some of the greatest sluggers of
all time in Henry Aaron, Willie Mays, Frank Robinson, Ernie Banks, and Orlando Cepeda. Cepeda finished his career with a more than respectable 379 career home runs, and is still in fifth place on this card, more than 130 home runs behind Ernie Banks' 512. The top edge is the only of the four that isn't razor sharp, with great corners and bright, vibrant colors giving the card immense eye appeal. Centering is slightly east on the canvas, with a little snow in the red diamond surrounding Willie Mays in the center of the card keeping this offering from grading even higher than it has.
