Incredibly rare card dating to 1893, issued by the August Beck company and most likely issued in packs of Yum Yum tobacco. Primarily a non-sports issue, the set includes generic images depicting baseball, football, yachting, cycling and golf. The set is rare enough that a complete checklist is unknown; part of the reason for their extreme rarity is a redemption offer that enabled collectors to redeem cards in exchange for various products. The cards almost never make themselves available for auction.
The most desirable card in the issue, this example has been graded VG 3 by SGC for reasons we cannot discern. The card is clean, and though it does have fuzzy corners, we have certainly seen plenty of VG/EX examples that show more wear. A tiny mark on the card near the pitcher's waist could be the culprit, a hefty price to pay for such a small flaw. Still, the cards are extremely rare; the only record of a public sale of this card that we can find is the sale of this very example, at auction last fall.
