The black borders of the 1895 N300 Mayo's Cut Plug cards, like most other black-bordered cards, are particularly condition-sensitive and subject to chipping.  Such is the case with this example featuring Bill Joyce, graded AUTHENTIC by SGC due to not meeting their minimum size for the issue, but with no evidence of alteration that we can see.  Chipping and wear at the corners and edges is typical for the issue.
