The American Caramel E90-1 issue is sometimes referred to as the T206
of
caramel issues, and has been dubbed "The Kraken" in some quarters due
to the challenges of collecting the 120 subjects found within. The set
was issued with a
stick of caramel that, as one might imagine, led to condition issues
which plague the set. This gorgeous example exhibits some light staining on the back, as well as along the upper left and lower right edge on the front.
The colors are dark, bold, and beautiful, giving this card great eye appeal. The technical grade comes from the top edge being cut at a very slight slant with the left side being lower, centering to the north, and a pinhole at the very top of the green background. Corners
exhibit rounding and wear consistent with its grade.
Joss pitched only 9 full seasons before passing away from tuberculous meningitis at the age of 31. While on the mound, "The Human Hairpin" dominated, winning 20+ games in four consecutive seasons, throwing two no-hitters, and adding in a perfect game. Joss has the second lowest ERA in history (1.887), and the lowest WHIP of all time (0.9678). Despite only pitching 9 seasons, the Hall of Fame deemed his career worthy of inclusion due to the strength of the years he did pitch, and the circumstances under which his career was tragically cut short. SGC has only graded 35 Joss E90-1s higher
than the Good 2 given to this example.
