You don't get nicknamed "King Kong" as a ballplayer unless you have some serious bat skills but Charlie Keller never liked the sobriquet that came about when he was playing college ball at the University of Maryland , coinciding with the movie premiering in 1933. A key member of six Yankees World Series winners, Keller was an on-base machine, with a lifetime .410 OBP (and a lifetime OPS+ of 152). This 1939 Playball is in a pleasing EX condition, graded PSA 5, with the signature, inscribed "Sincerely", writ large with several flourishes in blue ink, a stellar PSA/DNA 9. The card originates from the Shibe Park collection of autographed cards, an original owner collection carefully collected by a teenage boy who, in 1939 and 1940, obtained many autographs from players arriving at the train station near Shibe Park, and continued for many years to obtain signatures in person and through the mail.
