There's been a handful of players nicknamed "Moose" over the long history of professional baseball and all of them have been big, strapping lads just like Julius Solters.  He played nine major league seasons and had the misfortune of being hit in the head by a thrown ball during a 1940 pregame practice, which ultimately blinded him.  He has two signed 1939 Play Ball cards in the PSA/DNA database, one with a sample back and this one, authentic in grade due to scrapbook residue on the reverse, without. Solters died in 1975 and coupled with his blindness, that makes for an understandably tough autograph. He's signed here as "J. Solters' in blue ink, with a grade of NM-MT 8 for the signature which is fairly large with a rolling look.  Paper loss is quite visible on the reverse, the unfortunate result of long-ago scrapbook removal.  The card originates from the Shibe Park collection of autographed cards, an original owner collection carefully collected by a teenage boy who, in 1939 and 1940, obtained many autographs from players arriving at the train station near Shibe Park, and continued for many years to obtain signatures in person and through the mail.
