A reserve outfielder with the Yankees for three World Series champion squads, Myril Hoag found himself with the Browns for 1939, a decidedly poor change of fortune. There is only one signed 1939 Hoag Play Ball card and this is it, a PSA/DNA Authentic example on a card with scrapbook residue and signed in blue ink, which is a bit light. Hoag died in 1971 and did not autograph many cards. The card originates from the Shibe Park collection of autographed cards, an original owner collection carefully collected by a teenage boy who, in 1939 and 1940, obtained many autographs from players arriving at the train station near Shibe Park, and continued for many years to obtain signatures in person and through the mail.
