Harry Craft was a Centerfielder over six seasons with the Reds and was a member of their 1940 World Series winning team. He later went on to manage the Kansas City Athletics, the Chicago Cubs (as part of the "college of coaches") and the Houston Colt 45's and his teams finished better than next-to-last only once, when he piloted the fledgling Colts to an eighth place finish in their inaugural season, a record of futility few have ever achieved. The 1939 Play Ball card seen here has been graded Authentic due to some significant scrapbook addition and subtraction on the back. His signature though, is spot on and signed with some emphasis in black; a simply gorgeous PSA/DNA 9.  Some paper loss and remnants on the reverse speak to long ago scrapbook removal, as is the case with many cards from this collection. The card originates from the Shibe Park collection of autographed cards, an original owner collection carefully collected by a teenage boy who, in 1939 and 1940, obtained many autographs from players arriving at the train station near Shibe Park, and continued for many years to obtain signatures in person and through the mail.
