To celebrate Chicago’s centennial, the “Century of Progress International Exposition” was held at the Chicago World’s Fair in 1933 and ‘34. One of the more popular attractions was the Safety Glass exhibit, sponsored by the Safety Glass Manufacturers Association, that was staged inside the Travel and Transportation building. Safety Glass was demonstrated by a screen-enclosed tunnel through which visitors were invited to throw baseballs at glass panels to test their strength. Ordinary glass would shatter and scatter upon impact, while baseballs would actually bounce back after striking a piece of Safety Glass. 

Offered here is one of the informative, promotional brochures describing Safety Glass that was handed out to those visiting the exhibit in the early ‘30s. The cover shows Hall of Fame pitcher Lefty Grove holding a baseball next to a panel of safety glass where his thrown ball made impact and reads “Even Lefty Grove's fastball bounced back from a piece of Safety Glass." When folded, the brochure measures 3.75” wide by 8.25” high. The brochure remains in VG condition.
