Old Judge spelled his last name wrong here, and in fact but gave Daniel "Ecky" Stearns this incorrect monicker on all four of his N172 poses. Stearns bounced around, up and down, for many years and was with Kansas City in the American Association in 1889, likely dating this card to that year, which was his last in any major league, although he took his final bow in 1902 with Des Moines that capped a career that began in 1880. His 436-1 pose as captured here on an SGC 4 card, is a typical looking one, perhaps with a little more detail than most. The image here is dark, with great clarity and contrast. The card has some nicks on the corners and a little foxing but looks nice for the grade, front and back.
