Beautiful N172 Old Judge Cigarettes proof of outfielder James Burns, as taken by the Mitchell studio of Kansas City. The Mitchell studio contributed photos to Goodwin & Co. featuring players from the 1888 Kansas City Cowboys of the American Association. Burns, who batted .303 in limited time with the 1888 club, retired with a .305 average in three major league seasons. The photo is fantastic, clean and clear with outstanding detail. The mount is similarly well-preserved, with some minor chipping at the edges. The Mitchell Studio advertisement on the reverse is printed with gold leaf, and is extremely well-preserved. Old Judge cards of Kansas City players are difficult and desirable, and a proof this well cared-for is quite a find.
