Attractive and ornate 1927 payroll check issued to New York Yankees outfielder Ben Paschal. Paschal author of an eight-year major league career hit .317 in limited duty with the 1927 Yankees the backup outfielder to the "Murderer's Row" outfield of Ruth Combs and Meusel. The 1927 Yankees are regarded of course as one of the greatest teams of all time their 110-44 record leading them to a World Series sweep over the Pirates. This payroll check for $619.08 was issued to Paschal on September 15 of 1927 just as the Yankees were coasting to the pennant (Paschal was actually 0-for-1 that day in one pinch hit attempt in a 3-2 Yankees loss against Cleveland). The check bears the endorsement of Paschal on the reverse (his first name obscured by the bank stamp) but it is the signatures on the front of the check - of former Yankees executive Ed Barrow and newly-elected Hall of Fame owner Jacob Ruppert. Both Barrow and Ruppert's signatures are dark vivid fountain pan signatures applied to the check as secretary and treasurer of the team. The check itself is in remarkable condition some edge wear and toning present along with a fold down the middle. Various bank stamps and cancellations are present throughout as documents of authenticity that are inconsequential to the items' presentation. A wonderful document of a historically important team bearing the signatures of two of the great executives in New York Yankees history.
