A shining example of how third-party grading standards really do a poor job assessing photographic issues from the 19th Century, particularly the N172 Old Judge cards.  Sharp and clean, the most important components of this card - image contrast, and the clarity of the typesetting - are virtually ignored by PSA, who have assessed the card as a POOR condition one, due almost entirely to paper loss and scrapbook remnants found on the reverse.  Of course it is that very scrapbook that protected the card and shielded it from light for the majority of its life.  There is nothing important about the back of an Old Judge; the blank cardboard backing contains no advertising or other information, yet damage to the back is enough to reduce the technical grade to POOR despite maintaining the eye appeal of an EX or EX+ card.
