Charles Comiskey was a stalwart of the American League from its founding and his Chicago squad was one of the brighter stars in the early history of the Junior Circuit. He was cheap though and some have attributed his penury as an explanation for the Black Sox scandal, yet the fact is he was elected to Hall of Fame as an Executive. First though, he was a ballplayer, specifically one who captained the American Association's St. Louis Browns during their glory years of the 1880's. Seen here is his "Portrait in White Cap" 1887 N172 Old Judge card, commemorating the Brown's 1886 Championship.  SGC 1.5 in grade, the image is a bit light and the card has picked up some dirt along the way.  All-in all, it's a fairly typical 1.5, well into its fourteenth-decade.  This is the pose designated 86-1 by Miller, Gonsowski & Masson in their seminal Old Judge book.
