Distributed in the years around 1919 these oversized (4 3/8” x 6 3/8”) photographic premiums were produced by Chicago-area printer Felix Mendelsohn and sold in advertisements in The Sporting News as 100-card sets for $5. Since the issue was produced over a number of years more than 100 subjects are known and several had their team affiliations change as they were traded during the set’s production run. Today the cards are reasonably scarce; it is uncommon to find any cards from the issue at auction. This example, freshly graded by PSA, features the White Sox' Nemo Liebold, graded PR 1 by PSA due to heavy surface wrinkling that, despite its presence across the card, does not dramatically impact its eye appeal.  Pencil writing on the reverse (largely doodling) as well as some glue stains and scrapbook remnants, contribute to the grade and qualifier as well.
