c.1919 in-action original photograph of White Sox Hall of Fame spitballer, Urban "Red" Faber following through on his delivery with Comiskey Park in the background. After winning 16 games for the 1917 White Sox Faber earned three wins in the ensuing World Series, including a complete-game victory in Game 6. Two seasons later, after battling the flu all year, Faber was tragically unavailable to appear in the infamous 1919 World Series. Faber's battery mate, catcher Ray Schalk, contended that his presence on the World Series roster would have made the Black Sox scandal impossible as the conspirators would have been unable to secure enough pitching for the scheme to be worthwhile. Photo remains a sharp and clean depiction of Red Faber in his prime with three small pinholes present in the upper-left corner and a small tear present along the bottom where a piece has chipped from the edge. A handwritten identification of Faber appears on verso in pencil with a date of "1919" also provided. Guaranteed Type 1.
